Folding Structures: A Creative Journey by Mujassam Watan Participants

As part of the knowledge program accompanying the seventh edition of the Mujassam Watan Competition, an innovative workshop titled “Folding Structures” was held in collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra).

Spanning two days, the workshop brought together a select group of competition participants on a unique journey that blended art, engineering, and architectural experimentation. It offered a live model of creativity, where ideas were transformed into tangible prototypes within an environment that encouraged thinking beyond conventional boundaries.

This intellectual engagement reflects Mujassam Watan’s commitment to enriching the participants’ experience beyond the competition itself—through supportive programs that enhance design and conceptual awareness, and empower the new generation of creatives to craft a more conscious and innovative visual language.

The “Mujassam Watan” initiative recently hosted a discussion titled “The Impact of Arts on Enhancing the Urban Landscape.” The event featured Engineer Abdullah Al-Hajri: General Director of Studies and Design at the Eastern Province Municipality, Engineer Shahd Al-Wazni: Leader of the Tanween Creativity Conference at Ithra, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture and Engineer Mishaal Baityour: Lecturer at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University.

During the session, Operations Manager Engineer Mohammed Al-Ghanimi explained that participants in the associated competition receive complimentary access to selected workshops in collaboration with Ithra. He also noted that the competition is open to offices and studios in the category of city entrance sculptures, with winners to be announced through ArchDaily and various local and international platforms.

Mujassam Watan has launched its 7th edition under the theme ‘The Inspiration is everywhere.’ Operations Manager Mohammed Al-Ghunaimi emphasized the initiative’s commitment to inspiring creatives, enriching cultural heritage, and encouraging unique designs.

This edition introduces major partnerships to expand its global reach, focusing on public roads and squares. Winners will be announced on Saudi Arabia’s 95th National Day, with a total prize pool of 50,000 euros.

Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province and Chairman of the Eastern Province Development Authority, the authority signed a cooperation agreement with the Eastern Province Municipality and the Al-Fozan Foundation for Community Service, represented by the “Mujassam Watan” initiative, to develop the entrances to the Dammam metropolitan area.
